Better Than Wolves Community Edition is a community continuation of FlowerChild’s total-conversion design rather than a generic re-upload. It preserves the demanding survival-and-technology philosophy while continuing maintenance and system development; its current technical context is Minecraft Java 1.6.4 on Legacy Fabric.
Community Edition is a distinct branch, not a drop-in replacement
A shared name does not make Community Edition interchangeable with the original 1.5.2-era build or with newer Forge ports. Loader, game version, world data expectations and installation method should be treated as part of the build identity.
Keep separate instances
If you want to compare a community edition with another Better Than Wolves build, place each one in its own instance. Do not overwrite a working folder and then try to remember which files belonged to which package.
Use version-matched guides
A progression guide can be useful while still being wrong for your build. When a recipe, mechanical rule, or progression step does not match your game, first ask whether the guide and installed build refer to the same continuation.
World migration deserves caution
A world can contain modded blocks, inventories, and progression state that depend on a particular implementation. Always test migration on a duplicate world, not the only copy.
Document a stable setup
Once you have a build that launches and plays correctly, keep the archive, a note of the game version, and a backup of the instance. Reproducibility is the easiest form of long-term maintenance.
Practical next step
Keep your current working setup backed up, change one variable at a time, and document the exact build you are testing. That approach makes both gameplay learning and technical troubleshooting more reliable.
